External Courses
Dance external courses focus on the enhancement of skills and knowledge for dance teaching. The courses are designed to cater for:
- private studio teachers
- freelance teachers
- recreational dance teachers
- university lecturers
- primary and secondary school teachers
- dancers seeking a career transition.
Comprehensive study materials, delivered in a flexible format, assist teachers to study from home to enhance their teaching skills. Attendance at the university is not required except for the intensive on-campus units within the advanced certificate, graduate diploma and masters programs. All programs investigate current theory and practice
and are offered at professional and postgraduate levels.
This professional program is available as a four-unit Certificate in Dance Teaching or an eight-unit Advanced Certificate in Dance Teaching. Open to all dance teachers, these applied non-award faculty courses enhance teaching skills within the student's own teaching situation. Applications for the certificate and advanced certificate dance teaching programs are made direct to QUT Student Business Services on a TS form.
The postgraduate program offers a four-unit Graduate Certificate of Creative Industries (Dance Teaching), an eight-unit Graduate Diploma of Creative Industries (Dance Teaching) and a ten-unit Master of Creative Industries (Dance Teaching). For dance teachers with a relevant undergraduate qualification and/or significant experience in teaching or dance, these courses involve extended studies requiring research into dance teaching in its broader social context. This program aims to produce graduates who are critically reflective practitioners of dance teaching.
